Following USP 797/800, pharmacy compounding is performed within PEC (Primary Engineering Control), inside SEC (Secondary Engineering Control). The PEC is typically a Biosafety Cabinet for sterile hazardous drugs and Laminar Flow Cabinet for sterile non-hazardous drugs. The SEC is typically a cleanroom with ISO Class 7 (minimum) to ISO Class 5 (better drug sterility) rating.

Working inside a cleanroom involves wearing a proper gown, which reduces work comfort. Additionally, since clean rooms are shorter than regular rooms, PECs might be mounted too low, causing back pain. It’s ironic if the compounders also become the patients of the epidural pain injections they are preparing.

 A. Sterile Non-Hazardous Drugs

Sterile Non-Hazardous Drugs

For sterile, non-hazardous compounding, Esco designed the Airstream LHG, the quietest laminar flow cabinet in the market. At only 55 dBA in open field condition, about half of other brands, you can improve your focus and experience less fatigue during compounding. The dished work surface prevents liquid disinfectant spill to the floor, saving mopping work. This cabinet also features full legroom, instead of half legroom on other brands, for better ergonomics.

 B. Sterile Hazardous Drugs

Sterile Hazardous Drugs

To improve work comfort, Esco designed the Airstream AC2, the lowest height biosafety cabinet in the market. At only 55” tall, this AC2 is 7” shorter than other brands, enabling you to put it on a taller stand, to work while standing without bending your back. This low height is complemented by low noise and an ergonomic armrest that prevents your hands from accidentally touching the work tray or blocking the grille, thus improving sterility.

C. cGMP / 503B Compounding

For sterile compounding that requires compliance to Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) / 503B, Esco provides customized units that can be integrated with a particle counter, 21 CFR Part 11 compliant controller, and a full Stainless Steel 304 or 316 construction. We are a one-stop shop for all your pharmaceutical compounding needs.

Start 2022 by improving your work comfort.
