Five key steps to help prepare for DSCSA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued guidance on the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) and has extended enforcement until November 2024. The FDA guidance is clear that the law takes effect on November 27, 2023. Cardinal Health remains committed to our implementation efforts and working with our pharmacists and manufacturer partners to meet the enhanced drug distribution security requirements.

The year between compliance and enforcement will be a stabilization period, providing the industry time to build and validate interoperable systems and processes, manage products and data and ensure continuity of the supply chain and product availability to patients.

Here are five key steps to ensure you are prepared:

Know your Global Location Number (GLN)
Decide how to receive transaction data
Establish a process to handle investigations
Assess your need for a third-party solution provider to integrate information from multiple sources
Know the rules for managing returns
