MIC Airflow - MIC External Venting – USP <800>

The current MIC airflow design is a unidirectional recirculating system for both the positive and negative pressure units.

USP <800> starting July of 2018 will require that all negative pressure units be vented and placed into a negative pressure room. This may also be a requirement of some state Boards of Pharmacy. Until that date the current USP <797> or your state Board of Pharmacy rules apply.

To accommodate this change in the standards and rules the MIC can be modified to a once through vented system by installing a “venting kit” The venting kit which can be installed at your facility will draw air from the room, pass it through the two MIC HEPA filters and exhaust the air from the MIC into your exhaust system. The venting of the MIC can also create a negative pressure in the room depending on size. Contact CTG (317-713-8203) for details.

For MIC owners of a MIC Dual the chambers with one positive and one negative side can be separated and placed on separate bases to comply with the new standard. This can be accomplished at your facility.

The requirements for an external exhaust system are as follows; a 4 inch diameter duct (preferably one of smooth surface rather than the reinforced spiral style) to drop 4 to 6 inches perpendicular from the ceiling. A minimum of 230 cfm is required at that 4 inch diameter duct opening. The exhaust side of the MIC field installation kit will attach to the external exhaust house duct by means of flex hose. The external exhaust house system should be electrically configured to the same electrical back up system as the MIC. It is important the MIC isolator and external exhaust house system operate together in the event of a power failure.

The facility is responsible for providing ducting and outside exhaust blowers from the room to a point outside the building. For pricing and technical information on the vent kit contact Mark Blasky mblasky@mic4.com.

Sincerely,
The CTG Management Team
